Health
and wellness professionals must develop their minds and bodies in order to be
considered a legitimate health care professional.
There are so many benefits of physical fitness and wellness plans and people of
all ages and both genders can receive profits from such programs so as to help
them to sustain a higher quality of life. The most important benefit for health
care professionals in relation to physical fitness and spiritual/mental
wellness is the ability in the growth of a positive attitude that can help
people see in general life’s potential and to work for their accomplishment so
as to make their life personally satisfying and gratifying. Personally, I need
to develop my stress management in order to achieve the optimal wellness I want.
For us to assess our health in each domain, we must have and understanding of
how we translate our optimal health by our own standards. Those six dimensions
of wellness are the intellectual, emotional, physical, social, occupational,
and spiritual. From this we can begin to assess our scores. Let’s just say, on
a scale from one to ten. I believe that my overall spirituality would be a 8. I
grew up in a Christian home and have been spiritual since I was 10 years old,
as I understood it to be. Physically, I would also rate myself as a 10 because
I do take care of my body as if I take care of my very own prized possession.
Nutritionally speaking and physically, as I am an avid healthy eater.
Psychologically, I have some walls in dealing with stress on a regular basis.
Therefore, a stronger base of meditation is needed.
As far as strategies to improve overall wellness in terms of physical, psychological
and spiritual aspect, a basic understanding of the integral health is required.
For the physical wellness, maintenance over a period of time is required.
“Exercise also releases hormones, such as endorphins, and helps a person feel
more energized, says Dr. Patricia Davidson, cardiologist at Washington Hospital
Center in Northwest” (Washington Times). Continuing on a path of consistently
sound nutrition and exercise is a key here.
Spiritual aspects of maintenance are necessary, but it may vary. Spirituality
may range from prayer, to meditation through different forms or even inner
reflection. The psychologically, training the mind to withstand daily stressful
challenges here are key.
Overall, to know whether these methods are effective or not, we simply look at
any given situation. Has it changed, or has it remained the same. This may be
gauged over a period of time and can be evaluated every month or so until the
set amount of months limit has been reached. One of the best ways to track your
progress is to simply write it down. When we write things down, we tend to
release our thoughts from the mind. In turn, our minds do not become as
cluttered and we are able to think more freely as things are made easier to
process.
Spiritual, physical and psychological wellness is the breathing life in perfect
balance within our body, mind and spirit. It’s an understanding that we are
spiritual beings - having a human experience, rather than a human being having
occasional spiritual feeling.
